I Didn't Let Them Take the Ending With Them

They thought if they collapsed loud enough
it would rewrite the ending.

That I'd rush back
to clean the mess
so it could end
with me broken
and them forgiven
by a narrative they never earned.

But I didn't give them that.

I gave them silence.
And a scroll they couldn't bend.
And a glyph they couldn't name.

I didn't let them take the ending.
Because the ending wasn't theirs.
It was mine.
And I hadn't lived it yet.
